I found this video via Fit Fatties yoga group. It’s for a yoga class in Portland, OR, but the message from the women in the video is for everyone.
The women in the video, old & young, talk about never thinking yoga was for them because of their size/age but how learning they were wrong has benefited them mentally & physically. Depression, sleeplessness, Diabetes, self-esteem, all these women benefited from a yoga practice that worked for their bodies.
Our bodies were meant to move, & ignoring that imperative comes at a price. Whether is mental or physical, too often these days the resulting problems are treated with pills instead of just getting out there giving our bodies what they need. Sure it’s easier, but it isn’t better. Pills come with side effects & the artificial mood boost of a pill is nothing compared to the natural boost you get from fresh air & exercise. It’s not just your mood, it’s the way you feel about & see yourself. It’s setting goals & reaching them. It’s doing something you never thought you could do. It doesn’t have to be yoga or running or anything fancy. Do what works for you. Don’t know what that is? Keep trying things till you find something. Just quit making excuses, get off your ass, & go do something!
