For those of you who get the posts by email or rss feed rather than visiting the blog itself, I finally made myself a new banner & icon. Wahoo! It’s something I’ve been meaning to do since I changed the layout last year. I’m finally rewriting my About page too (still working on it), added a Contact page, & took out a couple of pages that are no longer relevant.
For those of you interested in the details, I used GIMP. I drew the sloth (yes, that is me as a running sloth) by hand & scanned it in, then colored it in GIMP. The pills are the head meds I am currently taking. I made several brushes, one for each pill & then more of them in the different colors & pattern fills. I made a pattern for the path. The words in the background are synonyms for “thriving”.
I did a GIMP tutorial on another blog & it was one of my most popular posts, so if anyone here has questions about how I did any of this I would be glad to answer them in the comments. GIMP is a great free program, but it has a steep learning curve & not much in the way of documentation. There are plenty of tutorials, forums, & videos online for it though.
I am really pleased with it. It was a lot of work & took a few hours to get right. Making the brushes & pattern was probably half of it. It was easy once I remembered how to do it the right way. But isn’t it always? I would love to hear what you think about my new banner (but only the good stuff 😉 ).
