PHP 5K Race Report: 9/29/2012

Anytime you suffer a setback or disappointment, put your head down and plow ahead.

PHP 5K shirt back design

The PHP 5K was my first official race.  I had run a couple of virtual races, but never anything in a particular place with other people.  I started becoming anxious as soon as I drove up & saw all the people there, especially so many of them wearing matching shirts like teams.  I felt very alone.  I guess that was sign of things to come since I ended up walking most of it & finishing dead last.  Exactly what I was afraid of 😦  But I did finish it, so that’s something. Weekly Running Update: Sept.17- 23

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other”
~Walter Elliot (Think Exist)

Just do it. (Nike swoosh) Even if it sucks.

-One great run this week, flubbed the rest. Next week will be better!
(Found this on tumblr. I traced it back to Hey Funniest, but couldn’t find the exact post.)

So… this week started out great, but went down hill from there.  Tuesday I ran 4mi at 12min run – 1min walk intervals.  Did great.  All miles under 18mins, & without even trying I ran each mile faster than the last.  I’ve run one mile faster than a previous mile, but I have never gotten faster on every mile.  I ran the last mile 42.3secs faster than the fist mile.  GO ME!  Then Thursday came…

PHP 5K & Fun Run

If I make this one, it’ll be my first actual race.  I’ve done a few virtual races, & I signed up for a local 5K last year, but was sick the day of & didn’t feel like driving 45mins to run 3mi & drive back home.  This one is a little closer, just 30mins away, & it doesn’t involve driving up a mountain.  If no one else registers in my age division, I’ll only have to trip a few people to place in the top 3.  I’m really excited, but I have to figure out how to do it with arousing suspicion.  I’m also excited because the race is along a nice area on the Tennessee River.

The race raises money for the local Christmas charities, & has become their largest single source of donations.  Interestingly, it was founded by the then CEO of a local company headquartered in Germany & so there is a sister race held at the same time in Obernburg, Germany.

100 Push Ups – Or Something Like That

“There is never time in the future in which we will work out our salvation. The challenge is in the moment; the time is always now.”

Woman doing push-ups

I know what you’re thinking, but nope that’s not me. (Image used from VisualPhotos.com)

My sinuses are killing me.  My head feels ready to explode.  Did get a little done today though, & wanted to be sure to update.

First, I guess I should address the push-ups, since that’s my title.  I started One Hundred Push Ups today.  It’s a six week online training program to build up to doing 100 push ups. Continue reading
