Who Knew Glass Jars Could Be Good for Your Health?

“Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread, and pumpkin pie.”
~Jim Davis (Good Reads)

I’ve been saving glass jars for months now, & now I know why!  I got an email today about Clean Eating Spinach Salad in Jars & it clicked why I need all those jars.  (Actually I have used some for various purposes, fyi.)  I’ve seen the idea before, but at the time I didn’t have jars & by the time I had jars I forgot about it.   I also have some ideas for overnight oatmeal in jars pinned, which I’m going to try out now that I have half a pantry shelf full of empty jars.

For your own ideas, here are a couple of links to inspire you:

A Healthier Version of Peach Pie

“What some call health, if purchased by perpetual anxiety about diet, isn’t much better than tedious disease.”

Ingredients for making peach yogurt taste like peach pie

A few rather simple ingredients to boost a peach yogurt beyond its container.

Something new from the home non-cooking front.  My current yogurt obsession is Great Value’s Peach Lowfat Yogurt.  (I buy the four pack, so mine looks a bit different than what’s pictured on the site.)  It’s cheap, available in my area, & has stats comparable to other brands; not to mention it has a great texture & flavor, & actual bits of peach in it.  Not a lot of fruit yogurts can say that. My Idea Of Cooking…

“I was 32 when I started cooking; up until then, I just ate.”
~Julia Child~ (Cooking Quotes)

ingredients rounded-up for my pumpkin & yogurt breakfast

Here are the ingredients for my usual breakfast: pumpkin, yogurt, cereal, & spices; yummy, healthy, & filling!  AND I never have to turn on the oven or stove:~)

Here you may witness my usual dish to “cook”.  This is my usual breakfast, & as close to real cooking as I intend to get today.  I’m limited to what is on hand, & there is nothing inspiring on hand I want to work with, so voila!  This is what you get today:~)  It’s tasty, quick, & easy, plus filling & good for me.  I always feel good after I eat it, satisfied & light – if that makes any sense. A Sad, But Successful, Week

I have failed over & over in my life, & that is why I succeed.

Creepy displays in the park dressed in children's clothes with children's faces.

This is one of the entirely too many creepy “kids” they have as part of a display in the park where I walk. They are dressed in kids’ clothing & have kids’ faces. There are several of them in one area of the park, some of the peaking out from behind trees. I can’t help but think every time I pass them there could be a homocidal midget hiding in there. I always keep my eye on them & pass quickly.

So, I had a not so good week.  If you’ve read any of my posts this week you know I found out last Friday a friend of mine, who had been ill for some time, took a turn for the worse.  Went into a bit of a panic & binged over the weekend.  It didn’t help I made brownies Sunday, even if they were Hungry Girl brownies.  Wednesday afternoon, she passed away.

I rehash this here, just to say I ate through all my points, even my activity points.  I actually ate into negative points for the week, & had to make sure I went out Wednesday to earn some more activity points & balance it out, lol.  Though, what I can proudly say is, even though I still have occasional binges, they are not near what they were.  I call that a win! “Are you casting asparagus on my cooking?”

Fudge Brownies with Pumpkin loaf

So it’s actually Monday morning now.  And sure, brownies & corn muffins aren’t so much supper as a dessert & a side, or bread, or whatever the civilized masses would consider it, respectively.  But This is my blog, & you get what I give you when you get it.  And you’ll like it! Continue reading

The Meetings Will Continue Until Morale Improves… Progress Check

You’ve got to say, I think that if I keep working at this and want it badly enough I can have it.  It’s called perseverance.

Jan 2011 Progress pics

It was in the 30s out & my camera was giving me issues, so ignore the unpleasantness I was radiating when these pics were taken.

So, I had a good week I am proud to report!  The last Weight Watchers meeting I had attended was before Christmas, so it had been three weeks.  I had also not tracked or exercised much, or mostly at all, in that time, & had eaten out a lot; so naturally I was nervous.  But I was also hopeful.  I felt thinner.  That’s gotta count for something, right?  I had gained 1.6 pounds at the last weigh-in, so I was doubly hoping for a loss this time; at least enough to balance out what I had gained.
