My Year To Thrive

"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." ~Maya Angelou

So… I’m Really Angry These Days

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

Yeah.  I noticed I had not only gotten back to actively playing facebook games.  Not just the usual three or four, but bunches of games.  I started playing them not just in the evenings while watching TV, but first thing in the morning when I got up.  I have been spending hours day & night on these wastes of time.  Okay, me wasting hours of my day on gaming is nothing new, but on facebook games??

I decided to limit myself & focus more on things around the house I’ve been procrastinating on, & that’s where it got crazy.  I realized I was angry.  Really, really, crazy angry.  About anything & everything.  The kind of angry where someone saying hello might as well be punching me in the face. Back from my sneaky hate spiral vacation…

“It’s snowing still,” said Eeyore gloomily.
“So it is.”
“And freezing.”
“Is it?”
“Yes,” said Eeyore. “However,” he said, brightening up a little, “we haven’t had an earthquake lately.”

So I took a little time off from blogging & weight watching & exercising to “feel my feelings”.  I got really down & just lost interest in everything, my brain lost the ability to keep up with thinking about & tracking my food, & frankly I was just in that place where my fondest wish is simply to die.  It kinda makes it hard to worry about other stuff. A Really Good Week! I’m Down In A Good Way:~)

“A wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings, and learn how by his own thought to derive benefit from his illnesses.”
~Hippocrates~ (Health Quotes)

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out

The secret to success (& a really cute motivational poster). From Poster-Street.com

I was really on point this week!  I ended the week with eleven of my weekly points allowance left over & 32 activity points racked up.  Hurray for me!  At my weigh-in last night I had lost 2.2lbs.  Hurray for me again!  That leaves me just another 4.6lbs to got to meet my first 10% loss.

But as good as the loss is, I’m keeping my focusing on the NSVs (Non-Scale Victories).  I can control what I eat & what I do.  The scale however I have no  control over.  Why yes, I am mentally preparing myself for a bounce next week.  Hopefully it won’t happen, but historically it has been a big issue.  But I’m going to keep making healthy(er) food choices & enjoying my exercise regardless.  Screw you numbers on a scale:~p  You can not defeat me! A Sad, But Successful, Week

I have failed over & over in my life, & that is why I succeed.
~Michael Jordan~ (from Steve_Faus on Twitter)

Creepy displays in the park dressed in children's clothes with children's faces.

This is one of the entirely too many creepy “kids” they have as part of a display in the park where I walk. They are dressed in kids’ clothing & have kids’ faces. There are several of them in one area of the park, some of the peaking out from behind trees. I can’t help but think every time I pass them there could be a homocidal midget hiding in there. I always keep my eye on them & pass quickly.

So, I had a not so good week.  If you’ve read any of my posts this week you know I found out last Friday a friend of mine, who had been ill for some time, took a turn for the worse.  Went into a bit of a panic & binged over the weekend.  It didn’t help I made brownies Sunday, even if they were Hungry Girl brownies.  Wednesday afternoon, she passed away.

I rehash this here, just to say I ate through all my points, even my activity points.  I actually ate into negative points for the week, & had to make sure I went out Wednesday to earn some more activity points & balance it out, lol.  Though, what I can proudly say is, even though I still have occasional binges, they are not near what they were.  I call that a win! Friday Fat Check: Damn Snow – Go Away Already! (& free stuff)

“Weather is a great metaphor for life – sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad, and there’s nothing much you can do about it but carry an umbrella.”

My Car partially uncovered during The Great Blizzard of 2011

My car partially uncovered. I know that counts as exercise!

Let me just say I’ve been pretty much useless this week.  I haven’t been able to get out of the house all week & so I’ve sat around working on this blog, setting up a Twitter, & generally farting around online.  I did manage to get in three days of exercise though, & I tracked every day faithfully.  I went over points on three days, but still ended the week with plenty of weekly points left & never had to touch my activity points.  I’m claiming that as a success! Motivation: What Is It? Where Do You Find It? How Do You Hang On To It?

“Any change, even for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.”
~Arnold Bennett~

My feet in the fall leaves at the park 2010

Walking in the park last fall.

We’re only a couple of weeks into the new year, so hopefully motivation isn’t a big issue for most people, but it is an issue that affects us all at some point in the journey.  No matter what type of change you are trying to make – lose weight, get organized, be less crazy, anything – motivation will be an issue.  In the beginning you need motivation to get going.  After that you have to continually renew your motivation to keep going.  Even after you reach your goal you usually need motivation to maintain all the hard work you did.
